The semester continues...

The last month has been very busy, and I'm sorry for not posting. It hasn't been too exciting with respect to knitting, so it's even harder to make the time to write a little entry for the blog. I'm taking one more class than last semester and I have a third section of lab to teach (and grade!), so there's not a lot of time. And then there are babies being born, people having birthdays and oral exams, and new yarn furniture to procure and assemble. Can someone please arrange for 30-hour days? I can't join the committee -- too busy already!

One other note -- the blog will be moving to imuknits.com around the beginning of March. I broke it already, though, so there's nothing there if you go looking now. I'll put a note here when it's actually working and transfered, so doin't hurry to update your bookmarks or links yet!

Ingrid's World of Stockinette in the Round

School's in, so there's not a lot of time for knitting. Except during class! My third class is an undergrad programming course, but since I have some (poor) programming experience, a lot of the course is pretty slow. I have permission to knit during class! But I still need to pay attention, so I need knitting that requires little thought and little space. Here's my most recent pair of boring socks. You can click here to see a closeup of the yarn.

I try to work ribbing, heels, and toes on the bus and leave the leg and foot for class or group meeting. This has been a pretty good system, and I finished a bulkier pair this week that I'll try to photograph for the next entry (so that I have someting!).

When my sock isn't ready for in-class knitting, I take my red and black sweater. The band is finally finished, and I've knit a few inches of red stockinette since this photo was taken. I think it's going to be a beautiful sweater. I need to double-check my row gauge and calculate when I'll have to start the motif that will be around the henley neck. It won't be in-class knitting anymore at that point, but I can still work on it in social settings on the weekends.

But wait! There's more! The goddess shawl is also moving along slowly. This is probably my most neglected project at this point. It's too big to take to school, so I don't work on it very often. This is my moebius project. In the photo, the twist is at the right-hand side. The upper part is stockinette and the lower part is reverse stockinette, which happened because of the way you pick up the stitches in the first round. When I took this photo, it was about a foot of knitting. It's on two 40" US 10 1/2 needles, so even though it looks small in the photo, it's actually pretty big! I'm thinking about when to put the eyes in, but I think I want them to be a bit higher.

Well, that's all the projects I've got here. It's kinda sad, really. I'm tired of stockinette, but there isn't really time to start anything else, so I'm stuck with it. Maybe over spring break I'll be able to pick up something else. (With my luck, it will be flat stockinette!) That day will come...

One more photo: my new yarn furniture. This is an 88" high bookcase from Scandinavian Designs (library collection) with glass doors up top and wood doors on the bottom. It took about 5 hours to assemble and weighs at least 200 pounds, and it's beautiful. I put it together two weeks ago and it still looks exactly like this -- empty! Maybe another spring break project will be putting all the yarn in it...

I'll try to write again sooner than later! Maybe I'll have some socks to post by then...
