February 28, 2006Time to do fun stuff againAaah, it's been so nice to relax again after passing my oral exam. I'm working on some stuff that's not picture-worthy yet (a sweater in a part-camel yarn, 4x4 rib with 4 st cables in the rib, did the fancy cable part and then had to rip it out, so not much to look at yet; sock of the month testing for my mom, so that's a surprise; a baby sweater for a shower on Saturday that so far is just a rectangle...) And so that I actually get something posted, I'll just throw up these pictures and hope to talk more about them later...

February 24, 2006...after passing orals!Well, I wouldn't have passed me, but I'm sure glad my committee did! After only an hour I guess I convinced them that I know enough about what I'm doing, even if that's not so much about chemistry. I'm now looking forward to knitting and spinning again, and I promise a decent update by Monday at the latest. I should have an in-progress sweater for you, hopefully some new spinning (and at least some new fiber) and a coupld hats that went to an orphanage in Kazakstan. But now, well-deserved rest before an early-morning meeting about my thesis work. It's kind of like, "Today is the beginning of the rest of your graduate career!" Don't worry, I'll take my meeting sock. :)

February 22, 2006... than taking oralsNot so much knitting going on here lately. My oral exam is tomorrow afternoon, so I'm trying to stuff a little more knowledge in here and there without letting any ooze out the other side. Brenda commented on the last post, "Orals, I'd rather try to knit Fair Isle blindfolded and with 10 colors in one row." What would you rather do than stand in front of three professors for 90 minutes and answer all their questions? ("...sit on the beach and have a cute waiter bring me frozen drinks," or "...curl up by the fire with a good book, a mug of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, and a warm furry friend," or "...knitting cashmere for hours in front of the TV watching the Olympics while eating an entire box of magically-calorie-free Thin Mints" are not allowed!)
